I am a writer, based in the North East of the UK. I live with my husband and our staffy dog.

I have always had an interest in writing and books thanks to titles such as Alice in Wonderland, 

The Hobbit and Goosebumps series. 

From a young age I believed (wrongly) that you couldn't have a career as a writer. It wouldn't make me any money. And while writing isn't about making money, it's about sharing your art, your words with the world. I am not sure where I got this notion that writing was not a valid career choice but it stuck with me, despite my desire to be a published author. 

I did various retail jobs and realised quickly that the retail world was not for me. But I did want to own a business and launched my own American sweet shop in 2013. 

After some success and a lot of moving around, I went back to jobs I hated and at the time I had met my partner, James who encouraged me to start my own business again so I created my own escape rooms. It was a brillaint time to be creative, write stories for the rooms, design puzzles and run the games themselves. It was also tiring and with factors like Covid, I eventually decided to sell the business so we could move into our first home. 

On and off I have always created greeting cards ( see screenpanda.etsy.com ) but what I wanted to do more than anything was write.

In 2023 I did just that. I created my first book under my pen name Matthew James and wrote about what I thought would help other business start ups with Let's Start A Business and I self published on Amazon in paperback and Kindle. 

It was a great learning curve for me and I went on to create a series of horror books for children inspired by some of the books I had read Goosebumps, named Skin Crawlers. Starting with Monstrous Mobiles, then came Escape Room Of Doom and finally, Creepy Christmas. I will write more for the series, soon!
